Sissoko has explained that he and his manager have talked a lot since his summer move.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told Foot Mercato that he has a very strong and vocal relationship with manager Mauricio Pochettino, whom he described as “extraordinary”.
Pochettino convinced Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to pay Newcastle £30 million for the France international this summer, ending a lengthy transfer saga.
The 27-year-old has played nine times in all competitions for the White Hart Lane club since his switch, but has started just four Premier League games this season.
Sissoko has worked under some top-class managers in his career, most recently Champions League winner Rafael Benitez at the Magpies, but it is clear that he holds Pochettino in particularly high regard.
He told French outlet Foot Mercato: “We have very good relations. When I signed this summer, we both talked. He talks to me a lot. As this is a new system, another way to play, he explains how to play, what he expects of me. For me he is a very good coach.
“We see what he has managed to do in the past with Espanyol, and after that Southampton and Tottenham. That is really something extraordinary. It is true that his work requires a lot of intensity in the game, but it pays off. In view of the results, what he does is good.”
Pochettino has indeed proven his managerial credentials over the last few years. He took Southampton onto a new level in his time at St. Mary’s, and has done the same at Spurs.
Though the North Londoners have stuttered somewhat in recent weeks – they are now winless in seven games in all competitions after the draw against Arsenal – they remain the only undefeated team in the Premier League this season.
