The London Evening Standard credited French club Marseille with interest in the former Newcastle United midfielder.
The France international himself said that he was open to the idea of leaving Spurs in the summer transfer window, as quoted by The Telegraph.
Sissoko, though, remained at Spurs and has established himself as an important player for the North London outfit.
Injuries to Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama have opened the door for the former Toulouse star to play quite regularly for Mauricio Pochettino’s side so far this season.
The 28-year-old has started four Premier League matches and one Champions League fixture for Spurs.
Once Dembele and Wanyama return to full fitness, Sissoko is likely to go back to being a substitute player, but his performances so far suggest that he could step up whenever needed.
In a World Cup year, the former Newcastle midfielder will be determined to perform well in order to be part of the France national squad.
Sissoko was a peripheral figure for Tottenham last season, but the Frenchman has already shown that he can play an important role this campaign.
