Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new manager goes on, but they may actually be closing in on a replacement for Jose Mourinho.

No, it’s not Mauricio Pochettino, despite Spurs seemingly being in the hunt for the Paris Saint-Germain boss over the last week.

Instead, it’s Antonio Conte being pursued right now, just a week after he left his post as Inter Milan boss.

Fabrizio Romano claims talks are ongoing with Conte over a contract, salary and the project at hand for Spurs moving forward.

Conte just won the Serie A title with Inter, and having previously won the Premier League title at Chelsea, it’s hard not to get excited about this move.

One Spurs player has already commented on Conte, with Moussa Sissoko mentioning him in an interview with Foot Mercato.

Sissoko called Conte a ‘great coach’, highlighting that he won trophies as Chelsea and Inter, which ticks the box of being a winner – something Sissoko thinks Tottenham need.

Sissoko noted that the next manager could determine his future at Tottenham, but seems pretty excited by the mention of Conte, just as rumours of a move begin to really ramp up.

“There are big names that are mentioned. It’s flattering for the club,” said Sissoko. “My future may be linked to that too. A new coach can come in and tell me that I am not going into his plans and that I have to leave. As he could also tell me that he wants me to stay. We know what a footballer’s career is like. We’ll see what happens and based on that, I’ll make a decision.”

“Which trainer will be the most suitable? I don’t have an answer to that. We had Mauricio Pochettino, then another style with José Mourinho. You told me about Antonio Conte, he’s a great coach who won at Chelsea, at Inter. Zinedine Zidane, he won everything at Real Madrid. They are coaches of different styles, but they are the coaches who win. I think what the club will want above all else is a winner. Then there are other criteria that certainly come into play, but that I cannot answer. It’s up to the chairman to make his choice and he will do the best for Tottenham,” he added.
