Konate is reportedly interesting Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds this summer.
Marcelo Bielsa has brought five new players to Elland Road since becoming Leeds United manager but remains in the market for another striker – and is reportedly after Amiens striker Moussa Konate.
French newspaper L’Equipe claim that Leeds are looking to sign 25-year-old Konate after an excellent 2017-18 campaign which saw him score 16 goals in all competitions, 13 of which came in France’s top tier – Ligue 1.
It is believed that Leeds are considering a last-minute offer before Thursday’s 5pm deadline, and could face competition from Championship competitors Brentford for the Senegal international’s signature.
Able to offer depth up front or out wide, Konate has plenty of experience under his belt already after spells in Switzerland with Sion, Russia with Krasnodar, Italy with Genoa and Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Leeds have landed Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough in the club’s most expensive transfer since Robbie Fowler’s move to Elland Road from Liverpool in 2001 – but another striker is surely required.
Kemar Roofe’s excellent display on Sunday gives Bielsa another option up front, but the former Oxford United attacker is not the physical presence Leeds require and is better off in attacking midfield.
Landing Konate, who boasts an abundance of pace and power, not only gives Bielsa the adequate back-up required for Bamford, but adds something to the Leeds squad that is somewhat lacking up front.
Playing him as second fiddle to Bamford would give the Whites top-class cover for the former Middlesbrough man, and surely the quality in depth required to gain promotion. Konate would be an excellent signing.
