Moussa Dembele left Celtic last year.

Moussa Dembele’s Lyon were defeated last night in the Champions League.
Their elimination at the hands of Barcelona was inevitable, but they gave a good account of themselves over two legs.
Dembele controversially quit Celtic at the end of the summer transfer deadline, and his decision has been justified this season by Lyon’s Champions League run.
Celtic crashed out of the tournament in the qualifiers, defeated by AEK Athens.
It was a loss which effectively ended Celtic’s hopes of keeping him.
Dembele wanted to test himself at the top level and he did so last night.
He has experience at the Nou Camp before of course, losing 7-0 with Celtic, and missing a penalty too.

It showed him there was a higher level of football to play at than dominating Scottish football.
He is playing in a more competitive league in France, where Lyon sit third.
Still only 22, Dembele has a lot of improving to do, but he has made sure he does not stagnate, by changing his surroundings.
Manager Brendan Rodgers’ subsequent exit from Celtic has only reinforced that he made the right decision to leave.
Last night he played in the Champions League knockout stages, a big career checkmark.
Despite defeat, that alone showed he made the right choice.
