Moussa Dembele has teased Rangers on Twitter after the Gers suffered defeat in the Europa League to Frankfurt. The ex-Celtic striker often uses Twitter to show his allegiance to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Joe Aribo’s effort was cancelled out by Rafael Santos Borre and the game went into extra-time. It lasted the extra 30 minutes, before Aaron Ramsey saw his spot-kick saved by Kevin Trapp. Frankfurt won 5-4 on penalties.
While Rangers will be suffering after the loss, it is right to remember just how good a run it was to get to the final. Celtic did get out of the group stages, while Dembele’s Lyon were knocked out at the quarter-final stage.
Rangers unlucky then, especially after Ryan Kent saw a 118th-minute tap-in saved by Trapp. Perhaps in bad taste somewhat, but to the delight of Celtic fans, Dembele reacted to the news Rangers had lost – teasing the Gers.
Dembele teases Rangers after defeat: A lack of class?
While it will only strengthen his relationship with Celtic fans, Dembele’s post lacks any class. A win for Rangers will have benefited Scottish football as a whole, and improved the coefficient for European qualification.
He was not the only ex-Celtic striker to post a tongue-in-cheek message. Chris Sutton thought Rangers would win due to the number of penalties they have got this season. Ultimately, Rangers lose, but can be very proud.
