The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been vital for the club this season and his importance shows no signs of waning.

At this point of the season, some clubs’ fans will be looking at the contract situation of a key player or two and coming out in a hot sweat.
Not so for Tottenham Hotspur supporters, who have seen their club tie the majority of their talent down until 2020 or beyond.
With only back-up goalkeeper Michel Vorm out of contract in 2018, there is little work that needs to be done in the short term. However, Tottenham’s hierarchy may be wise to sit down with Mousa Dembele sooner rather than later.
The Belgian should be next on the list for a new deal given Spurs’ method of negotiation and renewal.
He may have a contract that runs until 2019 but along with Jan Vertonghen the midfielder is the only Tottenham player of note with less than three years remaining on his current deal.
Given his ongoing importance to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Dembele needs to be secured for the long haul, as he has the ability to remain a key player for Tottenham well into his thirties.
Only time will tell what Spurs have planned for the 29-year-old, but do not be surprised if he is the next player photographed with a pen in his hand and a smile on his face.
