Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has been quoted as saying by the club’s matchday programme that Victor Wanyama coaches players during matches.

Wanyama has established himself as a key player for Tottenham since his move from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2016.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Spurs had to pay the Saints a transfer fee of £11 million in order to secure the services of the 25-year-old defensive midfielder.

Dembele and Wanyama have formed a strong partnership in midfield, and the Belgium international has revealed that the Kenya international coaches players during matches.

“Neither of us are are unbelievable speakers on the pitch but he does coach players in games sometimes and before the matches we speak as well, giving each other good information and advice,” Dembele told Tottenham’s matchday programme about Wanyama. “There is a good connection between us.”

Wanyama is a very good defensive midfielder, and it seems that he is already influencing players in ways that many would not have expected to.

The former Celtic star’s footballing intelligence and ability to read the game have been hugely important for Spurs so far this season.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 65 points from 30 matches, seven points behind leaders and London rivals Chelsea.
