Manchester United have been linked with the Croatia international for much of the summer.
The United boss said he had “no idea”, despite almost hourly reports suggesting baby-step progress is being made by Ed Woodward to bring the Croatia international to Old Trafford.
United have signed Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku so far this summer and both players are settling in nicely as the club prepares for the new campaign during a tour of the United States.

Wins over LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake are a step in the right direction but there is n doubt United need more quality additions, with a holding midfielder and a quality winger arguably the final pieces in Mourinho’s jigsaw.
Perisic may not be every fan’s cup of tea but at 28 he offers the experience United need in that area of the pitch, while his ability to track back cannot be understated.
The problem for United is that Inter Milan are not going to do business unless they get the best possible deal for a key player, and with Woodward already spending more than £100million this summer he cannot hide those kind of riches when doing business with other clubs.
United will be hoping they can finally get a deal for Perisic over the line by the end of this week, and if they do and he hits the ground running, all their efforts will have been worth it.
At this stage of their preparations, a late disappointment does not bear thinking about.
