Mourinho’s planned January swap offer could give Mauricio Pochettino a major transfer dilemma

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offer Luke Shaw in a deal for Danny Rose.

As Danny Rose prepares to make his return from injury for Tottenham Hotspur, speculation still surrounds his long-term future in North London.

Rose, 27, has been missing from first-team action since the end of January, when he suffered a knee injury against Sunderland – and fans may not be as excited about his return as they were over the summer.

The left back, whose career has completely turned around since Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as Spurs manager in 2014, suggested to The Sun in August that he was disgruntled in North London, feeling undervalued and that he wanted to return to the north of England.

Unsurprisingly, speculation has surrounded Rose’s future even with his injury lay-off, and The Mirror report that Jose Mourinho’s search for a left back could lead him to a January move for Rose.

The alleged offer would include sending left back Luke Shaw to Tottenham in part-exchange, and such an offer could present Spurs boss Pochettino with a major dilemma.

Pochettino got the best out of Shaw at Southampton, and whilst he has struggled to find the same form at Manchester United, the Tottenham manager may feel that a reunion with the 22-year-old can get him back on track.

However, Spurs appear to have other left backs in mind; The Sun claim that Tottenham remain keen on Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, who possesses huge potential to become a star of the future, whilst also having the pace and attacking ability to replace Rose.

With Ben Davies performing so well at left wing back this season, signing both Sessegnon and Shaw would be foolish – but it means that Pochettino may need to decide between a reunion with Shaw, or working with the potential of Sessegnon.
