Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the transfer saga involving Christian Eriksen, Tottenham and Inter Milan.
The transfer specialist revealed that Jose Mourinho would like to have the 103-cap Denmark international back in north London on loan.
However, Romano claims that Eriksen’s salary demands are the ‘main issue’ as things stand.
The former Ajax maestro’s €7.5 million-a-season (£6.7 million) wages – after tax – are proving problematic for Tottenham to match, according to the Italian.
Romano adds that there are no advanced talks between Inter Milan and Spurs ‘yet’ – the use of that word in particular is very intriguing.
Furthermore, the journalist mentions that Eriksen would like to return to the Premier League.
In our view, it would be foolish to bring the 28-year-old back.
Mourinho isn’t even able to find enough game time for Dele Alli right now, so why would Tottenham need another attacking midfielder?
There are greater benefits in playing a 24-year-old Alli, whose value is rapidly decreasing, over loaning a 28-year-old.
Of course, Spurs are right to target a source of creativity, given their tendency to be quite unimaginative during matches sometimes.
However, that source is right under Mourinho’s nose in Alli.
It’s a strange one, but it certainly seems as if the Eriksen saga is worth keeping an eye on.
