Robbie Keane has claimed that Tottenham boss, Jose Mourinho, will be ‘more successful’ than Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta in the ‘short-term’, as he told Stadium Astro.
Spurs recorded a vital three points against Arsenal over the weekend, as both managers got a taste of the North London derby from the dugout for the first time.
Despite no fans being in attendance, it was an entertaining and lively game, but it was Mourinho’s side who came out on top and won the bragging rights.
Both teams have struggled this season, hence why their previous managers were sacked, but ex-Spurs man, Keane, thinks it’s Mourinho who will do better in the short-term.
“Arteta needs to be given time,” Keane told Stadium Astro. “He needs to have an identity for the football club. Will he play this system, five at the back next season? I don’t think he will. He will want a 4-3-3, but he will have to bring his own players in.
“Given the opportunity, will he be successful? I believe so. In the short term, I probably think Mourinho will be more successful because he has been there and he’s done it before.”
Given that Manchester City’s two-year Champions League ban was overturned, it means that fifth spot will no longer provide Champions League football, nor will eighth spot provide Europa League football.
Whilst finishing in the top four is out of the picture for the North London duo, they will still want to finish in European finish, and it’s Spurs who are in the driving seat ahead of their rivals.
