Jose Mourinho has told Sky Sports that Son Heung-min is so under-appreciated in this Tottenham Hotspur team because of his quiet life away from football.

Son, a £22 million signing in 2015, is already on course to have his best-ever season in a Spurs shirt.

So far, the South Korea attacker has a whopping nine goals and four assists across eight games for Tottenham in all competitions.

He is arguably the North Londoners’ most in-form player right now, along with Harry Kane.

But the English forward seems to get more praise and recognition than the former Bayer Leverkusen star who, according to Mourinho, may need to ‘make some noise’ before the world begins accepting him.

He told Sky Sports: “Maybe our world doesn’t accept kids like him – discreet, humble kid, normal life, quiet life, incredible social behaviour. Maybe the world doesn’t like top professionals like him. Maybe he should make some noise. He’s a rockstar when he plays.”

Son scored four goals in the 5-2 win at Southampton last month, but his lack of appreciation is nothing to do with impressing against inferior opposition.

He isn’t really a flat-track bully, evident by the fact that he also scored twice in the 6-1 demolition of Manchester United.

Perhaps Mourinho is right in saying that a low-key profile away from the football pitch has a bearing on how recognised his achievements on it are.
