Jose Mourinho has suggested to Joe that Hugo Lloris’s place in Tottenham Hotspur’s starting line-up in now under pressure.
Spurs have added Joe Hart to their list of goalkeeping options, with Paulo Gazzaniga also at the club.
While Hart isn’t expected to start for Tottenham this season, he does give them a strong option in reserve.
And Mourinho thinks that Hart’s arrival should help to keep Lloris on his toes, as it puts even more pressure on the Frenchman to perform.
“Joe is one of the top keepers of the last decade in the country. He started very early, playing in a big club like City and playing for the national team,” Mourinho said.
“He has all the experience, I think a negative episode a few years ago has marked his career for the last two or three years, because it’s not easy to leave a champion club and then to go into clubs of another dimension.
“Now he has a chance to be back at a club like us.
“Of, course Hugo is our captain – he is world champion captain. He’s a phenomenal goalkeeper and is very important in our group, but I think Joe will give him the hard competition that we need.”

Hart has already suggested that he is happy to play a back-up role at Tottenham and that he wants to use his experience his help the group.
Hart is a Premier League champion and he should provide Tottenham with the knowhow of how to get over the line.
Mourinho has clearly targeted strong characters this summer to add more leadership to his group, and Hart’s arrival, therefore, makes a lot of sense.
Lloris’s place in Spurs’s team does look secure at the moment though, as he has been one of the most consistent players at the club since Mourinho’s arrival.
