Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has suggested to Sky Sports, during their live coverage, that he needed more from Dele Alli yesterday.

Tottenham lost 1-0 to Everton yesterday, and Alli’s display was worryingly poor.

The attacking midfielder was subbed off at half-time, with Moussa Sissoko coming on.

And Mourinho suggested after the match that he needed more from his attacking midfielder.

“It was tactical, they were playing with one pivot,” Mourinho said.

“Allan was in that position there, Doucoure and Gomes were pressing high and there was lots of space in that position. Lots of space to play.

“I needed more something more dynamic there, which we were also not able to get in the second half.”

Alli’s start to the season is unlikely to help the criticism that has been directed his way in recent times.

The Tottenham man’s performances have certainly dipped in recent times and, despite an initial improvement when Mourinho first arrived, he has seemingly hit a slump in form again.

Alli could well be a key player for Tottenham over the opening few weeks of the campaign, as without Giovani Lo Celso they are desperate for him to provide them with some creativity.
