Jose Mourinho has admitted that he isn’t happy with Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon.

The Spanish left-back is in hot water and was benched for the 3-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday after photos emerged of him with Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso in a house on Christmas day, flouting social distancing measures.

Tottenham released a statement condemning the trio but Mourinho seems that bit more disappointed with Reguilon, a £27 million addition from Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.

The former Real star had told Mourinho that he’d be spending Christmas alone, prompting the Portuguese coach to have a suckling pig delivered to him for the day.

Speaking after the victory over Leeds, the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss said via The Standard: “I gave him [it] because I was told he was going to spend Christmas on his own. I had this thought about him. He was not alone as you could see and we the club of course feel disappointed because we give the players all the education, all the conditions. Of course we’re not happy.”

The 24-year-old has been a big hit since joining Tottenham, both on and off the pitch.

On it, Reguilon has easily ousted Ben Davies as Mourinho’s preferred left-back and away from the field, he has earned a lot of popularity for the way in which he interacts with the Lilywhites fans in promotional videos and social media.

This is a little bit of a blot on his copy – and Mourinho omitting him yesterday should indicate as much – but he’s definitely good enough to fight his way back into his coach’s heart.
