Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told Football.London that Serge Aurier and Steven Bergwijn missed out against Burnley last night due to ‘little’ injuries.

Spurs made the trip north to take on Burnley at Turf Moor, and were looking to get back on track in the Premier League having squandered a 3-0 lead against West Ham United.

Tottenham weren’t exactly at their best, but managed to come away with all three points as Son Heung-min bagged a second-half winner.

Spurs now sit fifth in the Premier League table, just two points off top spot having gone five league games unbeaten since the opening day defeat to Everton.

Mourinho rang the changes for this game, as he went with tried and tested Premier League players like Matt Doherty, Eric Dier and Ben Davies to battle with Burnley’s powerful strikers.

Despite starting against West Ham, right back Aurier and winger Bergwijn weren’t even in the squad against Burnley, leaving some to wonder where they were.

Now, Mourinho has admitted that both players were left out completely because of little injuries, and Spurs didn’t feel they needed to be risked.

Mourinho noted that this shows just how strong the Spurs squad is right now, but he will certainly hope to have Aurier and Bergwin back sooner rather than later.

“Winks and Davinson in the stands, Dele stayed at home, Bergwijn little injury, Aurier, little injury,” said Mourinho. “It’s the kind of squad where little injuries we don’t need to risk. The squad is very good, very strong. And every match if not Dele, the next match will be another one. The next match will be another one. I have to admit it hurts me because they deserve more. This is the life of a top squad,” he added.
