Jose Mourinho has insisted to Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur’s players spoke up in a team meeting after their defeat to Sheffield United.

Spurs held the meeting in light of their 3-1 loss to the Blades, which was highly disappointing.

Tottenham had made some improvements after the Premier League restart, but their flaws were shown up at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United punctured Tottenham’s defence on multiple occasions throughout the contest, with Mourinho calling into question his side’s mentality after the game.

Mourinho was keen for Tottenham’s players to speak about where they thought things went wrong last week.

And the Portuguese boss insists that the Spurs squad used their opportunity to give their opinion in a team meeting.

“What happens inside stays inside – I think that’s a golden rule,” he said. “But it was a very honest meeting.

“It wasn’t a monologue, it was a dialogue, because the players also had the chance to speak with me, and we shared views, and we shared emotions, and we shared analysis.

“I’ve lost many matches in my career but the ones that gave me the worst possible taste are the ones where I feel we should do much more than we did.”

Spurs will now be looking to bounce back quickly with a win against Everton this evening.

Tottenham will move up to eighth place with a victory, but a defeat will see them slip into the bottom half, with Everton leapfrogging them.
