Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has admitted to Sky Sports that he was shocked by Bournemouth’s tactics against his side.

Bournemouth and Tottenham played out a 0-0 draw yesterday, with neither side posing much attacking threat.

Tottenham did not even have a shot on target during the contest, with defences coming out on top.

And Mourinho feels that Bournemouth playing a more direct game disrupted Tottenham, as he had not planned for it.

“The performance was not good enough, but good enough to win,” Mourinho said.

“I am not saying a strong performance or a sharp one but good enough to win.

“They surprised us with the way they played, since Bournemouth were in the Premier League I don’t remember them playing the way they did, but that is an option for them because they have a point they wanted.

“They played direct, only direct, they didn’t move the ball in the first phase like they used to do and they made it difficult for us in their approach.”

Whatever the reason behind Tottenham’s poor display, Mourinho will need to ensure his side start showing more attacking quality.

Spurs have had just five shots on target in their last three games, and pressure is now building on Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss has so far failed to get the best out on Spurs’s attacking players, with the Lilywhites still stuck in ninth place.

Tottenham are next in action against Arsenal on Sunday, and a hugely improved performance will surely be needed if they are to pick up the three points.
