Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that Dane Scarlett was recommended to him by his side’s academy coaches, as per his comments to Football London.
Scarlett became Tottenham’s youngest ever player last night, as he was brought off the bench in the Europa League.
The 16-year-old was introduced for the final 10 minutes, with Spurs 4-0 up in the contest.
And Mourinho has now revealed that Tottenham’s academy staff all speak very highly about Scarlett’s potential.
“Dane I didn’t know was the youngest player [ever],” Mourinho said.
“He had a good pre-season with us. He went back to his team and trained with them.
“Yesterday when I felt there was space in the squad for another player, it wasn’t just my decision. I spoke to my football director and the academy.

“They gave me his name and there were others in his team because they’re doing well. “
Scarlett actually could have scored on his Tottenham debut, to give the game a fairytale ending.
The teenager first went close when played through one-on-one, and he then almost squeezed a shot in at the far post, before it just trickled wide.
Scarlett was introduced alongside Alfie Whiteman and Harvey White last night, in what was a great evening for Tottenham’s academy.
Spurs’s win over Ludogorets has pushed them to the verge of qualifying from their Europa League group now, with one more win all that is required from their final two games.
