Jose Mourinho has told Football London that it was ‘crazy’ how good Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Moura was against Aston Villa.
Moura has developed into one of Mourinho’s most trusted players, and seems to be thriving in a more central role for Spurs.
Lucas’ ability to break the lines of opposition teams has already been praised by Mourinho, and that was evidenced on Sunday evening.
The Brazilian kept hurting Villa’s defence through his speed and dribbling ability.
Where Lucas sometimes lacks is his final pass, but his end product was great at the weekend.
Lucas showed great vision to set up Carlos Vinicius for Tottenham’s first goal in their 2-0 win over Villa.
And Mourinho admits that he was very impressed by the £23 million man’s contribution (BBC Sport).
“I understand, they deserve this individual praise,” Mourinho said.
“Crazy performance by Lucas, Harry, Pierre – we had some fantastic individual performances but for me this is the victory of the dressing room, the victory of their spirit, the victory of the group that felt ashamed of what happened in the last week.
“To be ashamed I always think is a man’s reaction. Don’t care, don’t give a (swears) is not for men. To be ashamed is a man’s reaction which they had and I’m very happy for them.”
Tottenham’s win over Villa has provided Spurs fans with some much needed reason for optimism.
Spurs have now closed down the gap to the top four to just three points, and there is hope that Mourinho’s side may just be able to put together a strong run at the end of the campaign, to break into the Champions League qualification spots.
