Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told the club’s official website that he was ready to bring Steven Bergwijn on, if the game had gone to extra-time.
Tottenham were made to fight for a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup last night by Wycombe Wanderers.
Spurs saw the scores locked at 1-1 as the game entered the final 10 minutes, and Mourinho was forced to use Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Tanguy Ndombele as his side looked to progress.
Once Tottenham made the changes they really started to dominate the game.
And Mourinho admits that he still had Bergwijn waiting in the wings, if Wycombe had been able to hold out for a few minutes longer.
“In the second half the changes were about fresh players and I still had Steven Bergwijn in case we went to extra time to play, so we still had good ammunition on the bench to try and kill the game, which we did,” he said.

If Bergwijn had have been introduced it seems likely he would have come on for Gareth Bale.
Bale impressed last night, as he managed to finish the 90 minutes and looked sharp throughout.
The Welshman may now be edging closer to match fitness, as he pushes for a more regular starting spot at Tottenham.
