Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he might be recalling Dele Alli into his Tottenham Hotspur squad tomorrow night.
Spurs are gearing up for a Europa League qualifier with Maccabi Haifa but the England international has been left out of Mourinho’s squads in recent weeks.
Alli has been linked with a move away from Tottenham as a result of being snubbed by the Portuguese.
But the Lilywhites boss has told a pre-match press conference that he might bring the 24-year-old back, absolutely lauding his professionalism and application during training.
He told The Standard: “The only thing I can say is he’s being very, very professional. I have only respect for him. He’s being very professional, particularly yesterday when the team was preparing for the game and he wasn’t. It would be perfectly acceptable to have a lack of motivation, even a lack of professionalism for this training session but it was exactly the opposite.
“He trained very hard yesterday. He has my respect and the respect of his teammates so it’s possible he plays tomorrow.”
With five days left in the transfer window, it might be a little late for Tottenham to secure a move for Alli – either a loan or a permanent.
But it’s good for the club to hear that the player is seemingly determined to fight for his place.
If the transfer window shuts and Alli is still nowhere near Mourinho’s plans then that’s the worst case scenario for all parties and it’ll be fascinating to see whether he’s included tomorrow.
