It’s probably fair to say that Tottenham Hotspur have really missed Giovani Lo Celso.
Injury has kept the Argentina international out of action since before Christmas and Jose Mourinho’s side have only won three Premier League games since then.
When you consider the fact that Tottenham have had 10 top-flight matches since Lo Celso last played, winning just the three is clear evidence that the former Real Betis man was a little more important to Mourinho’s side than it initially appeared.
But the Portuguese has delivered ‘great news’ regarding Lo Celso’s fitness.
Mourinho, speaking to a pre-match press conference ahead of this afternoon’s visit of Burnley, said: “Gio is not ready to play football yet, but he’s training with the team and that’s great news for us because we have so many matches. It [the fixtures] never stops.”
It is indeed a hectic schedule and the Lilywhites have no fewer than six matches over the next 19 days, including a Europa League last-16 tie with Dinamo Zagreb and a North London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on March 14.
With the games coming thick and fast, rotation will be key for Tottenham if they’re going to juggle their domestic and European commitments, which means Lo Celso might be on the comeback trail at just the right time.
