Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho wasn’t a happy man today.

Before the final whistle sounded in Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Newcastle United, the Portuguese coach had already stormed down the tunnel.

Callum Wilson scored a last-minute penalty to earn a point for Newcastle following a controversial decision to penalise Eric Dier for handball in the box.

There’s been widespread condemnation for the decision – made after a VAR check by referee Peter Bankes – and Mourinho showed what he thought with his actions immediately after Wilson scored.

In further protest, the Tottenham boss has uploaded a 2010 photo of himself on Instagram making a handcuff gesture, from his time in charge of Inter Milan.

It’s a reference to a 0-0 draw with Sampdoria over 10 years ago, when Mourinho was slapped with a three-match ban and fined £35,000 for the gesture which was considered insulting to the referee [The Guardian].

It came after two Inter players were sent off during the game, and the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss crossed his hands in front of fans and television cameras.

Mourinho is no stranger to disciplinary action in the Premier League but refused to comment on the penalty decision, insisting that he has nothing to say on the matter [Football London].

But this Instagram hint is a suggestion that he still feels victimised by what he perceives as questionable officiating, a decade later.
