The Chelsea boss is focused on his team ahead of a meeting with his former mentor, Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been discussing his special relationship with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal ahead of their meeting at Old Trafford this weekend.
The Special One was part of Van Gaal’s back room staff at Barcelona in the late 90s, before taking on his first managerial role at Benfica. It was a very successful time for both men and the La liga giants, with Barca winning the league in Van Gaal’s first two seasons in charge.
Inevitably, there has been plenty of interest in the meeting of the two managers and their teams this Sunday.
Both have mentioned a mutual respect of their opposite number, but Mourinho was quick to point out that the most important thing was Chelsea getting three points.
“I don’t play against Louis.
“Chelsea plays against Man United. As a young coach to be working four consecutive years – one with Mr (Bobby) Robson, three with Louis – at a club like Barcelona was very important.
“It’s not the moment for that. Everybody knows the respect I have for him. I never hide the respect, the relationship and the fact he was an important influence in my career.
“But, please, he’s going to be my opponent, so don’t make me speak for half an hour good about him.
“He knows what I feel about him. The world knows, because I never hide. What can I add? I have nothing to add.
“We go to every match to win.”
