Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that Davinson Sanchez was guilty of a ‘technical mistake’ last night.
Spurs got their season back underway with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in North London.
Mourinho’s side dominated the first half and got their reward when Steven Bergwijn’s effort creeped under David de Gea.
But the visitors were much better after the break and ultimately equalised with 10 minutes left, when Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot after Eric Dier conceded a penalty.
Sanchez was playing centre-back alongside Dier last night, and the Tottenham boss says that the Colombian stalwart’s error almost resulted in Marcus Rashford scoring.
He told Football London: “I think Davinson for the 90 minutes made one technical mistake, not tactical mistake, which handed them the only chance they had in the first half with Rashford’s shot.”
It was a risky move by Mourinho to pair Dier and Sanchez together, given that Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen were among the substitutes.
But for the most part they looked like a very decent pair – despite Dier conceding the penalty – and it’ll be interesting to see if that’s the axis again on Tuesday when West Ham visit the Lilywhites.
