Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has questioned why Aston Villa have backed out of their scheduled game against his side tonight, in his press conference, which was covered by Football London.

Spurs were due to face Villa this evening – but Dean Smith’s side managed to get the game rescheduled on Monday.

Villa were set to be without a number of first-team players, as their training ground has been shut down due to a coronavirus outbreak.

The claret and blues did play against Liverpool in the FA Cup last Friday, though.

And Mourinho questioned why Villa were able to play in that match, but unable to compere against his Tottenham side.

He said: “I can also ask why Aston Villa played against Liverpool. In the cup, but Aston Villa doesn’t play against me tomorrow.

“Of course, Aston Villa have very good young players and they played beautiful game against Liverpool, but I would love to play tomorrow against that Aston Villa.”

The answer to Mourinho’s question is likely to be down to the fact that the Premier League simply is more important to Villa than the FA Cup.

While Smith was happy to give his youngsters a chance in the cup, doing so in the Premier League would have been far more damaging to their chances this term.

Villa have made a bright start to the campaign, and may just have eyes on competing with Tottenham for a European place now.

With Villa pulling out, Spurs are now due to face off against Fulham tonight instead.
