Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told Football London that he fully trusts Joe Hart, despite not giving him a Premier League start this season.
Hart has filled in for Tottenham in cup competitions this campaign, and has racked up nine appearances altogether.
With Hugo Lloris’s form dropping in recent weeks, there has even been some suggestions that Hart could come into contention for Tottenham’s Premier League squad.
Mourinho launched a fierce defence of Lloris yesterday, though, which suggests the Frenchman will keep his place.
But the Portuguese boss was keen to stress that he remains happy with Hart’s displays.
“In Joe Hart’s case, I’m also happy,” Mourinho said.
“He played already, if I’m not wrong, nine matches this season which is more, If I’m not wrong, than what he played in the previous two seasons. So in half of the season here I believed he played more matches than in the previous two seasons. Which is very, very good. He’s also goalkeeper I totally trust, too.”
Hart may come into Mourinho’s thinking for tonight, with Tottenham set to take on Wolfsberger AC in the Europa League.
Spurs are set to name a strong outfit for the contest, but Mourinho has already hinted that he could rotate.
And with Lloris badly out of form, he may feel that the time is right to take Tottenham’s captain out of the firing line.
