Jose Mourinho has hinted to Football London that he might play Harry Kane and Carlos Vinicius together at Tottenham Hotspur for the first time soon.

Vinicius was expected to provide cover for Kane at Spurs this season, but Mourinho insists that is simply not the case.

The Portuguese boss claims that there is a definite possibility that Kane and Vinicius could be used as a duo up top for Spurs as the campaign progresses.

Vinicius was used as Tottenham’s target-man last night, as they picked up a 3-0 win over LASK.

And Mourinho was impressed with his new signing’s showing, even though he thinks that he can improve even further as he becomes more settled in North London.

“He played well but he can do better,” Mourinho said. “Not easy to not speak English so the adaptation to the group isn’t an easy situation.

“Different football, different way to play, how we want to press. It’s about learning. But with these circumstances, first match he did well.

“Only thing that was missing was one goal. Showed he’s more than that and that he can play with Harry Kane as well.”

If Kane and Vinicius are partnered together, it seems most likely that the England captain would have to play in a less advanced role.

Kane has dropped into deeper areas naturally this season, and as a number 10, he could still be very effective.

A partnership of Kane and Vinicius would also give Spurs a lot of physicality and aerial prowess if it was to be utilised.

And with a powerful Burnley side up next, it would not be too much of a surprise to see the pair playing in tandem together on Monday evening, if Tottenham are chasing a goal.
