Jose Mourinho has hinted to BT Sport that Harry Winks has put himself in contention to start more regularly at Tottenham Hotspur, after his impressive performance last night.
Winks scored a decisive goal as Tottenham picked up a 4-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers.
Spurs had struggled to break down Wycombe for well over 80 minutes before Winks curled in an effort from range to put his side into the lead and then the floodgates opened.
Tottenham went on to score a further two goals to put a gloss on the scoreline.
And it was Winks, who BT named as their Man of the Match, who was singled out for praise by the Spurs boss after the game.
“Some of them, some of them,” he said, when asked who had put themselves in contention.
“Didn’t Steve Sidwell choose Harry Winks as Man of the Match? Steve was, and will always be, one of my boys so I have to agree with him!
“Winks played very, very well. But some of the other guys did really well too.”
The public praise will be music to the ears of Winks, who admitted he wanted to play more regularly after the match.
The 24-year-old has seen his chances limited this term after the arrival of Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and the improvements in Tanguy Ndombele’s game.
Winks has been linked with a move away from Spurs, but the club seemingly have no desire to sell him – and he could yet play a key role between now and the end of the season, with Mourinho’s side competing across a number of competitions.
