Tottenham Hotspur were minutes away from enhancing their Premier League title credentials in a major way against Liverpool.
Spurs went into last night’s clash at the top of the Premier League table, ahead of the Reds on goal difference.
And Jose Mourinho’s side looked like bringing a very hard-fought point back to North London with them.
But Roberto Firmino headed home a last-minute winner to send Liverpool three points clear at the summit and take the wind of Tottenham’s sails.
Mourinho made headlines after the game for telling Jurgen Klopp at the final whistle that the best team lost.
And the Portuguese has doubled down on that claim with a post-match message on Instagram.
Did the best team lose? Not according to the stats.
Yes, Tottenham had their chances to go ahead when Steven Bergwijn and Harry Kane spurned gilt-edged opportunities in front of goal.
But Liverpool had 76 percent possession, 17 shots to the Lilywhites’ eight and, of course, over 200 passes in the final third compared to the visitors’ 19.
Tottenham remain in this Premier League title race, but a point would’ve put a lot of doubters in their place.
