According to Transfer20 in Spain, Jose Mourinho wants to bring William Carvalho to Tottenham this summer.

It’s stated that the Real Betis star is on the Spurs radar, but Leicester City, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also in the mix.

Betis would allegedly be happy to sell for €30million (£27million), which causes an immediate problem for Tottenham this summer.

The global pandemic has hacked away at Tottenham’s budget, so seeing them splash that kind of money on the Portuguese anchor man seems unlikely now.

However, if there is one thing that would suggest Tottenham could still target Carvalho, it’s Mourinho’s long-standing admiration of his compatriot.

Even back in 2014, Mourinho wanted Carvalho at Chelsea, according to a report from The Mirror. That move didn’t materialise, with Carvalho stuck at Sporting for another four years.

Mourinho’s links to Carvalho don’t end there though. In 2018, The Sun claimed that Mourinho’s Manchester United wanted to sign Carvalho, but he again missed out as Carvalho made a surprise move to Betis.

Now, Mourinho is being linked with Carvalho again, unsurprisingly being described as having held him in ‘high esteem’ for a long time.

Tottenham need a true holding midfielder, and Carvalho fits the bill. He’s big and powerful, put possesses a decent passing range too and can recycle possession well whilst protecting his back four.

A deal won’t be easy given the money involved, but Mourinho may be hoping it’s third time lucky in his pursuit of the 28-year-old.
