Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move to sign Norwich City prospect Max Aarons a little earlier this month.
Over in Italy, Calciomercato reported that Tottenham were interested in signing the 21-year-old defender.
But with Jose Mourinho’s Roma also linked, bringing the right-back to North London is hard.
And going by another report from Italy on Sunday, Mourinho has stolen a march on his old club.
Corriere Dello Sport is claiming that the Serie A team have ‘made a move’ already to bring the Canaries gem.
CDS add that Mourinho originally wants the right-back on loan, with a view to making it a permanent deal at some point down the line for £18.8 million.
Necessary signing?
Tottenham won’t be happy if Mourinho – whom they fired in April – pip them to a signing but really, do they need Aarons?
Well, the answer is no.
Spurs have only just signed Emerson Royal from Barcelona this past summer and a deal for yet another right-back doesn’t seem all that logical.
There’s no doubt that Emerson hasn’t looked like a new version of Cafu just yet, but it’s still early in his Spurs career and patience is needed.
