Mourinho has reportedly just upset some of his own Tottenham Hotspur players

According to Football London, some Tottenham Hotspur players aren’t best pleased with manager Jose Mourinho over his comments on Sunday.

Spurs conceded a late equaliser and wound up leaving Newcastle United with just a point following a 2-2 draw at St James’s Park.

Mourinho cut a frustrated figure after the game and intimated that Toby Alderweireld and Serge Aurier weren’t Tottenham’s saviours.

Both players were omitted from the squad after missing covid tests and therefore were unable to train at Hotspur Way until a day before the Magpies trip.

When asked about the duo in the press conference, the Tottenham boss was somewhat hostile and intimated that it wasn’t like the Lilywhites had never lost a game where both Alderweireld and Aurier had started the match.

And according to Football London, some Spurs players were ‘angered’ by Mourinho’s comments.

But it’s a perfectly fair question for the media to ask. After all, Alderweireld and Aurier are defenders and it was a dreadful defensive performance by the Portuguese’s troops.

By the same token, you can understand his frustration.

Victory at St James’s Park would’ve propelled Mourinho’s side into fourth place in the Premier League. It was a big opportunity and if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, these two dropped points might be looked back on with far more sorrow.
