If Tottenham Hotspur are going to win the Premier League, they’re probably going to need reinforcements this month.
Spurs are seventh in the Premier League table and although a title push seems optimistic, it’s worth noting that only a couple of weeks ago Jose Mourinho’s side were flying high at the top of it.
The North Londoners are now seven points behind leaders and champions Liverpool – who have played a game more – but if the Reds strengthen their squad this month, which they probably will, then it’s imperative that Tottenham follow suit if they have ambition to win the league.
But Mourinho has bad news for Spurs fans on this front.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Leeds in North London, the Portuguese coach revealed via Football London that there wouldn’t be much business being conducted at Hotspur Way in January with regards to potential arrivals.
Mourinho said: “I’m not expecting, no. Times are not easy. the club made a big effort in the summer to try and build a good squad. Honestly, if something good happened to us, it would be a big surprise for me.”
It wouldn’t be uncommon for the Tottenham boss to underplay his and his club’s hand in the transfer market, but the truth is that Daniel Levy did do a lot during the summer transfer window – including secure a season-long loan for Gareth Bale from Real Madrid – so there’s bound to be little budget available for much this month.
