Jose Mourinho has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier is playing ‘very well’ out of his natural position.
Spurs have won four points from a possible six during Project Restart.
Last night, they beat West Ham 2-0 in North London, having being held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United five days ago.
In both games, Tottenham had midfielder Dier playing as a centre-back and the England international has been looking relatively solid in a fairly unfamiliar role.
But Mourinho believes that the new position suits the player really well – and Dier also shares that view.
He told Tottenham’s website: “Eric is playing really, really well. He’s adapting to very well to a position that he thinks – and personally I also think – is a great position for him.”
Bigger tests lie ahead for Dier, particularly on July 12 when Arsenal visit for a North London derby.
Okay the Gunners are playing horrifically, but their could be a new-found belief and morale coursing through their collective veins by then and with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang up front, Dier won’t be able to relax.
