Paul Merson told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (27/02/21 at 2:20 pm) that the unthinkable can happen and Liverpool can sack Jurgen Klopp.
The outspoken TV pundit was making reference to next season and if Liverpool don’t finish in the top-four.
The example Merson used what that of Jose Mourinho and how he ‘gave everything’ to Chelsea, yet still got the chop. Twice!
Merson was clear in the sense that questions will have to be asked of the German if things go wrong again next term.
On Klopp giving everything to Liverpool in terms of trophies: “Mourinho done that to Chelsea,” said Merson. “He gave them the Premier League and everything they wanted.
On whether Chelsea and Liverpool are different animals: “I do. But I think this year, they would have put that in their budget, top four – there’s one sure thing in management and that’s the sack.
“This manager is a great manager. But let’s be honest, if he didn’t get in the Champions League next year. We would seriously be talking ‘how is he carrying on?’. You would.
“For how great he is and he’s a great manager and what he’s done for Liverpool. I know you can say different animal, Mourinho done it at Chelsea. He done it at Chelsea and he went.”

The Premier League title is gone, every Liverpool fan knows that.
But it’s making sure they don’t completely mess up this season and finish outside of the top-four places.
If that happens then it is an utter disaster for the Reds, and whilst they will still back themselves to secure Champions League football, those around them are putting up a serious fight.
