Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has insisted to Football London that he thinks Davinson Sanchez had a good game for his side yesterday, despite his own goal.

Sanchez played a key role in allowing West Ham back into the game as Tottenham threw away a 3-0 advantage in the last 10 minutes on Sunday.

The Colombian defender diverted a cross from Vladimir Coufal into his own net, to give West Ham hope that the comeback was on.

But Mourinho did not criticise Sanchez too heavily after the game, as he insists he felt that the Spurs defender had a good game otherwise.

“I can look at that and say, yes a team that plays so well for periods and does the most difficult thing in football – scores goals and we’re scoring a lot of goals – cannot lose two points like we did,” Mourinho said.

“So to go in that direction is quite easy for me. I don’t think complacency. Davinson was playing a positive game, to score in his own goal which is obviously football. It’s difficult to find.”

Despite Mourinho’s positive comments, Sanchez will surely be gutted about his mistake.

Too often Sanchez has been guilty of undoing his good work by making a mishap at the back, and it now must be becoming a major concern.

Spurs paid big money to bring in Sanchez when he was a youngster and while these mistakes were forgivable then, he badly needs to start cutting them out of his game now, if he is fulfil his undoubted potential.

Mourinho does actually have the option of bringing in new signing Joe Rodon now, while Eric Dier should be back to fitness before long, which puts Sanchez’s place under threat.
