Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has described Gareth Bale’s latest performance as ‘okay’.
Spurs were thumped 3-0 away to Manchester City on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side recorded a 16th successive win in all competitions.
The damage was already done when Mourinho introduced Bale on 72 minutes for Erik Lamela.
But despite barely playing in the Premier League this season, it was a promising cameo from the Wales international who, before kickoff, had only managed 230 minutes of league football under Mourinho.
Both Mourinho and Bale made headlines in midweek after the Lilywhites boss was reportedly angry with his player for an Instagram post which intimated that he was fit, after the Portuguese coach ruled him out of the FA Cup trip to Everton through injury.
But if there was any serious resentment on Mourinho’s part then Bale simply wouldn’t have played yesterday.
Here’s how Mourinho reacted to his player’s performance via Football London: “I think he was ok. Of course one training session with the team. No problems after the match. Let’s see if he can play Thursday or next week.”
At this stage it looks certain that the 31-year-old will be returning to Real Madrid once his loan ends.
The North Londoners do have the option for a second season but Bale, quite honestly, is proving to be worth the wages right now.
