AS Roma could reportedly offer Ghanian international Felix Afena-Gyan to Crystal Palace as leverage in a deal for Wilfried Zaha, who Jose Mourinho is interested in signing.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Eagles are interested in the 19-year-old attacker, who last season enjoyed a breakout year with Roma with the forward becoming a regular under Mourinho and making his first senior appearances for the Black Stars, with Afena-Gyan also signing a new contract until 2026.

Despite this new deal and how highly-rated Afena-Gyan is, Roma are now tempted to offer the attacker in a deal to sign Zaha, a player the Serie A side are eager to sign with Nicolo Zaniolo set to leave the Roman club following the departure of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

As per the report, Palace value Afena-Gyan, who was compared by his agent to Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o, at around £10m, which could help Roma in their quest to sign Zaha, who might be ready to leave Selhurst Park after one of his best seasons yet for the south London side.

Indeed, Zaha has long been linked with a move to a bigger club throughout his Palace career, yet links to Roma are new and somewhat exciting, with the Ivory Coast international a player who could thrive in Italy and relish the chance of playing European football with Mourinho.

However, as we have seen over the years with Palace, attempting to sign Zaha comes with a huge financial cost, but with Roma potentially offering Afena-Gyan as part of the deal, Mourinho could well break the Eagles’ stance and land the 29-year-old Premier League attacker.

Patrick Vieira’s revolution at Palace has been a joy to watch, with the French manager overhauling one of oldest squads in the Premier League into one that is set to become one of the youngest this summer, and Roma could potentially sign one of their best players in Zaha if they offer the south London side Afena-Gyan.

The Ghanaian is one of Italy’s most exciting talents and a player that Roma looked willing to keep hold of and develop for the coming years, but with Mourinho now eyeing Zaha, Afena-Gyan could be the deciding factor on if Roma manage to sign the Ivorian international.
