Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has praised Sergio Reguilon’s performance against Chelsea through his comments to Football London.
Reguilon was picked to start at left-back for Tottenham for the first time on Tuesday evening, and his display caught the eye.
The Spaniard was actually at fault for the goal which Tottenham conceded, as he gave possession away and then dived in rashly.
But Reguilon really kicked on after the error, and looked a constant threat for Spurs going forward.
Reguilon ended up claiming the assist for Spurs’s equalising goal, and he also came close to scoring.
And Mourinho was impressed by the way the former Real Madrid man bounced back from his mistake.

“His debut was really, really good,” Mourinho said. “There was something that for me is great because it showed me the character and personality of the player which is he makes a mistake for their goal and his performance after that moment was just going up, and up and up.
“When many, even experienced players, when something is going wrong for them, or they are involved in some negative moment of the game, their confidence goes low. The kid was exactly the opposite.
“He could have done better for the Chelsea goal but since that moment it was when Sergio really exploded for the game and had incredible, incredible performance.”
It will now be interesting to see whether Tottenham stick with Reguilon as their first choice, or allow Ben Davies back in the team.
Davies has been a mainstay in Mourinho’s side’s since he took over, but there is a feeling that he could well lose his place now that Reguilon has arrived.
