Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have been the stars for Tottenham this season, while summer signings Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon have also received a ton of plaudits.
However, if there is one Spurs player who has quietly been brilliant, it’s Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian has been a rock in defence for Jose Mourinho’s side, but he hobbled off with what looked like a hamstring problem against Manchester City.
Many feared the worst for Alderweireld, but Mourinho has delivered some good news. The Tottenham boss has revealed that the injury isn’t as bad as they initially thought, yet he has claimed that he could be out for as long as four weeks.
He told Football London: “Toby has a muscular injury but not as big as we initially thought. He will have his time to be out but not like a month, which was immediately what we thought. I’d say between two and four weeks.”
Alderweireld has played 10 games for Tottenham this season and has been brilliant. He has formed an excellent partnership with Eric Dier at the back, and the pair are one of the biggest reasons why they are on top of the league table.

Alderweireld returning in just two weeks would be fantastic. He will have an outside chance of being fit for the North London derby against Arsenal – a must-win game for every Tottenham supporter.
The Belgian, however, is guaranteed to miss the big game against Chelsea this weekend. He was brilliant against Manchester City and helped his side keep a clean sheet on Saturday.
Without him and potentially Eric Dier, who is also expected to miss the game at Stamford Bridge, Spurs will have to do something special to get a win. But it is not beyond them to do so considering how good every player in the side has been over the last few games.
