Tottenham Hotspur’s Jose Mourinho claims Steven Bergwijn did not lose the ball once against Maccabi Haifa, as per his comments on Football London.

Tottenham strolled to a 7-2 success in the Europa League last night, as they completely outclassed their Israeli opponents.

Bergwijn actually didn’t get on the scoresheet, despite having a couple of presentable opportunities during the contest.

But Mourinho was still very pleased with the Dutchman’s display.

“After 75 minutes or so he played against Chelsea he was really good,” Mourinho said. “The team needs that, playing against a team that was pressing so high and giving space in behind.

“He was very, very important. He didn’t lose the ball. He dropped, he got the ball, he beat people. He was really good. I am sorry for him that he did not score. A very good performance. Physically he is getting better, he is getting sharper. We have incredible options in the attacking positions and very happy.”

Bergwijn actually has not hit the back of the net in some time for Tottenham now, and is still looking for his first goal of the new term.

The January recruit has proven a valuable option to Tottenham since he arrived though, and he should have a key role to play as a rotational option throughout the season.

Tottenham’s goals against Maccabi Haifa were scored through Harry Kane, who netted a hat-trick, Giovani Lo Celso, who bagged a brace, Lucas Moura and Dele Alli.

Spurs have now confirmed their place in the group stages, with Mourinho clearly taking the Europa League very seriously this term.
