Jose Mourinho has called Tottenham Hotspur youngster Elliot Thorpe into first-team training ahead of his side’s clash with Everton tomorrow.
Thorpe has never before played for Tottenham’s senior side, and only stepped up to their under-23 set-up in the last two years.
But Mourinho clearly has taking a liking to the young midfielder.
Tottenham called up a number of their most promising academy players yesterday, and Thorpe was pictured participating in the session.
For all the criticism of Mourinho, he has been willing to offer Tottenham’s academy players chances this season.
Dane Scarlett, Marcel Lavinier, Nile John and Alfie Devine have all been given first-team opportunities by the Portuguese boss over the course of this campaign.
Thorpe seems unlikely to feature in Tottenham’s match day squad tomorrow against Everton.
But his call-up will surely offer him encouragement, and the hope is that he could develop into a useful player at senior level for the Lilywhites in the future.
