Jose Mourinho is long gone from Tottenham Hotspur, but he may finally pull off a move he wanted at Spurs by landing Abdel Sattar Sabry.
Mourinho was axed by Tottenham in April, with Daniel Levy unhappy with the style of play as well as the results from Mourinho.
It hasn’t taken Mourinho long to get back into the game though.
Mourinho is back in Serie A with Roma now, having enjoyed great success in Italy with Inter Milan between 2008 and 2010.
Sabry claims Tottenham interest
Mourinho’s move to Roma means some of his coaches from Tottenham have gone with him.
Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos were both at Tottenham with Mourinho. Now, they form key parts of his Roma staff.
Mourinho also wanted Egyptian coach Abdel Sattar Sabry at Tottenham – well, at least according to the man himself.
Speaking to Forza Roma, Sabry claims that Mourinho wanted him at Tottenham, but it just didn’t happen.
Mourinho has now made a move to bring him to Roma, and a final decision is expected this coming week.
“Mourinho already wanted me at Tottenham. I await an answer in a few days,” said Sabry.
Who is Abdel Sattar Sabry?
You would be forgiven for not really knowing who Sabry is; his career wasn’t necessarily glittering.
An attacking midfielder in his playing days, Sabry turned out for the likes of Tirol Innsbruck, PAOK, Maritimo and Estrela da Amadora.
For Egypt, Sabry earned 70 caps in six years, bagging 11 goals. Sabry also serves as an Under-19 coach with the Egyptian national setup.
So just how does Mourinho know Sabry?
Sabry also played for Benfica, and was actually managed by Mourinho there.
21 years since parting ways, Sabry and Mourinho may finally reunite.
It could have happened at Tottenham, but instead looks to be happening at Roma.
