Liverpool fans on Twitter were impressed with Joao Cancelo’s performance during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against the champions today.

Cancelo, who is a natural right-back, was deployed at left-back by Pep Guardiola and he had the task of trying to deal with Liverpool’s speed king Mo Salah.

Whilst Salah did score from the penalty spot, Cancelo wasn’t at fault for that incident because it was his fullback compatriot Kyle Walker who fouled Sadio Mane.

But even though Cancelo, who was purchased for £60 million by Man City from Juventus in 2019 [BBC Sport], was on the other side, the opposition supporters were mightily impressed with what they saw from him.

On a number of occasions, he did well to keep Salah and bay and not allow him to cut onto his favoured left foot to shoot.

In the end, both teams finished the game with a point each, but Kevin de Bruyne will be kicking himself because he missed a penalty in the first half.

It was unlike De Bruyne, as Salah and Gabriel Jesus were the players to get on the scoresheet at the Etihad.
