Motherwell boss Steve Robinson has been quoted by The Scottish Sun as saying that he intends to offer Louis Moult a new contract after an 18-goal campaign.

Moult, 25, joined Motherwell from Wrexham in the summer of 2015, and made an instant impact at Fir Park, scoring 18 goals in 42 games in his first season with the club.

The striker continued his superb displays for Well with 18 goals in 34 appearances this term, serving as one of the top strikers in Scottish football in the process.

Motherwell have lost key players such as Darren Randolph, Shaun Hutchinson, Chris Humphrey, Jamie Murphy, Marvin Johnson and Lee Erwin in recent years, and will now have to deal with interest in Moult too.

Reports from The Scottish Sun last month suggested that Rangers were interested in signing Moult this summer, with Pedro Caixinha seeking a new striker to boost his Ibrox squad.

However, it was claimed that Rangers would have to pay cash plus winger Michael O’Halloran in order to do a deal, and the Gers may well back away from that move, despite their willingness to let O’Halloran leave.

Now, Well manager Steve Robinson has told The Scottish Sun that he has a great relationship with Moult, and whilst interest in his services is natural, there has been no firm offers for him so far.

Robinson added that he intends to offer Moult a new contract to stay with the club, but they won’t stand in his way if a truly exceptional offer arrives from another club this summer.

“I haven’t had any personally at all,” said Robinson. “I have spoke to Louis on numerous occasions, I have a brilliant relationship with Louis. There will be interest, you don’t score the amount of goals he does and contribute as much to Motherwell as he has over the last two years without interest. But there has been nothing firm. I’m quite hopeful that Louis will still be our player at the start of the season, that’s very much as a manager what I want.”

“He’s a big part of what we do he’s very difficult to replace. But if someone comes in with the right money, a fee that we believe is fair for the player and fair for the club then we won’t stand in his way. But Louis is very much committed to Motherwell at this moment in time.”

“If someone comes in with an offer then we will sit down and talk about it but if they don’t Louis is very much committed to us. We will probably sit down and offer Louis a new contract as well, that’s my thinking. When we sit down with the board and have a chat about it we will put something to him and that will be up to Louis whether he decides to do that. If he doesn’t then he’ll be here for another year and I know he will be absolutely totally committed to the football club and to me. He’s reassured me of that and I have total faith in that,” he added.
