Gary Lineker has praised reported Tottenham Hotspur target Olivier Giroud on Twitter for his performance for Chelsea against Leeds United.
The former Tottenham striker was impressed with Giroud during Chelsea’s Premier League game against Leeds at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, and believes that he could be the “most underrated striker in the game”.
Giroud scored for the Blues in the first half. It followed the former Arsenal striker bagging four goals for Frank Lampard’s side in their win against Sevilla in the Champions League in midweek.
Calciomercato reported last month that Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing the 34-year-old when the transfer window opens in January, as covered by HITC Sport here.
Would Olivier Giroud make Tottenham Hotspur better?
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are in fine form at the moment, while Carlos Vinícius is also an option for Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho upfront.
However, Giroud is a proven goalscorer, and his ability to score goals from inside the penalty box and being a proper target-man would make Spurs better and add a different dimension to their attack.
Having said that, it must be acknowledged that it is hard to see Chelsea sanction a move for Giroud to Premier League title rivals Tottenham in the middle of the season.
