‘Most likely’: Newcastle United sent a transfer message about Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic

Former USA international Herculez Gomez expects Newcastle United transfer target Christian Pulisic to ‘leave’ Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old will have 12 months left to run on his Chelsea contract in the summer and he hasn’t been used by Frank Lampard for their last four Premier League matches, which is a situation that is just repeating itself, according to Gomez, as he told ESPN

It’s a clear sign that Christian Pulisic isn’t wanted at a club that has spent over £600 million during the past two windows and can put out four or five first-team XIs, that’s how many players they have on their books.

But whilst the American’s time in West London could be at a close, he is still wanted elsewhere.

There have been reports that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are looking at the all-action forward – the Magpies are two wins away from securing Champions League football.

For far too long, Pulisic has been in and out of Chelsea, with the same story surfacing under different managers, which was touched upon by Gomez.

“Christian Pulisic is going to find a suitor,” said Gomez. “He’s going to land on his feet. He’s not playing and it’s not the first time he’s not played.

“One can hope for Christian Pulisic. It’s the same story with Pulisic, just rinse and repeat. It was like that (lack of game time) with Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and after with Graham Potter.

“Hopefully, if he stays at Chelsea, then it won’t be like that with Pochettino. But only Pulisic can get himself out of this mess.

“I am thinking, most likely, he leaves. The thing is, if he stays for another year. They are going to lose leverage. Chelsea are going to lose a lot of financial ability to sell any type of transfer when it comes to Pulisic. He could even leave for free. I don’t think that’s happening.”

PULISIC JOINING NEWCASTLE WOULD BE A RISK

Chelsea paid Borussia Dortmund £58 million for Pulisic’s services (Sky Sports) back in 2019.

During that period, he has played 95 Premier League games, starting 57, scoring 20 and assisting 11.

With the US star’s injury record, it would be a risk for Howe to bring him on board and a lot will also depend on his transfer fee because you don’t want to even go above the £25 million mark for a player in his current position.
